We are changing
As the year comes to a close and I wind down my latest adventure paddling the Atlantic Coast, I will begin changing the site to more closely align with my current goal and mission in life. From here forward, the One Ocean Project will be called: Wabi Sabi Your Life. Over the past several weeks, I have been writing about Wabi Sabi and getting a feel for what this means and how it is received by others. I have so far gotten nothing but a warm and positive response, so onward we go.
So, what is Wabi Sabi, and more specifically, what does 'Wabi Sabi Your Life' mean. Wabi Sabi, as defined on Wikipedia, means the following:
"Wabi-sabi is the most conspicuous and characteristic feature of traditional Japanese beauty and it "occupies roughly the same position in the Japanese pantheon of aesthetic values as do the Greek ideals of beauty and perfection in the West." "if an object or expression can bring about, within us, a sense of serene melancholy and a spiritual longing, then that object could be said to be wabi-sabi." "[Wabi-sabi] nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect."
To me, taking this and other definitions of Wabi Sabi, 'Wabi Sabi Your Life' means to apply the principles of beauty, simplicity, and a sense of Spiritual growth to your daily life, thus finding peace, love, and happiness in what already exists. I have personally been on this journey for over two and a half years, and it wasn't until I came upon these two words that I was really able to articulate what I have been doing and what my life has become about. As I move forward, Wabi Sabi Your Life, the website and practice, will be "The Journey into Spiritual Discovery and Life Simplification".
Here on this site, I will continue writing about my adventure travels as I attempt to continue my own Spirtual growth and life simplification -- in the process of doing so, I will talk about my Spiritual Journey, as well as seek other inspirational stories that tie closely to my overall theme, sharing them with users and building a new community of like minded individuals. I will delve into ways that adventure travel and immersion in nature can not only help individuals reconnect with nature and spirit, but how the process of doing this Simply, can then transfer to your day to day life. How changing the way we eat, moving to natural items and simple meals, is not only a path to financial freedom, but better health and a more sustainable way of feeding the planet. How the movement from needing the next best thing, to simply finding happiness and usefullness in what you have or what has already been used can lead to even greater financial freedom and remove that feeling that you need more, more, and more.
We all know that feeling, it is the feeling that keeps us bound to corporate jobs that provide no sense of fullfilment or worse a complete and utter dread of waking and working each day. How can simplifying your life change this burdesome tie, thus freeing you to step out and pursue work that is more fullfilling for both you and your family? Can simply taking an extended trip out into nature provide the clues to unlocking the secrets of happiness and spiritual fullfillment?
It seems that at a certain point, here in 2010, we as a society have become overwhelmed with the complexity of our daily lives and the ever present 'connectedness' of the electronic age. This complexity has lead to record levels of individual stress, health concerns, a lack of personal time, and a decline in Spiritual growth. It is no wonder that so many people feel out of sorts, unable to maintain healthy lives with a healthy balance between work, play, personal growth, relationships, etc. At Wabi Sabi Your Life, I hope to inspire others to make significant changes to their lives, not only by writing about my own experiences, but also those of others.
As I progress down this path, I will be offering a Wabi Sabi Your Life, Life Coach service, where on a weekly basis I can interact with you, on a one to one basis, helping you shape your goals for Spiritual Growth and Life Simplification. The Life coach service will help you to set specific goals; provide you with an outlet for complex discussions; and attempt to 'lightly' hold you to your plan. Stay tuned for more details over the next week.
I hope that you all enjoy the journey and participate by sharing your stories that will inspire all.
Peace & Love,
Glenn
