Winter Setup
Here is the Mukluk rigged with Porcelain Rocket bags in 'Winter Mode'. I will have to classify this as 'Winter Mode I' v. 'Winter Mode II'. The difference will mainly be the environment and extreme nature within which I travel. For this trip I was able to get buy with only carrying 2-3 days of food at a time and this fit perfectly in this setup. For more extreme trips, where either more food and/or additional gear must be carried, then I will switch out the rear bag for a rack & dry bag setup.
This is the setup I will be using for Alaska where not only will the conditions be harsher and colder but the amount of food I need to carry will go up, but so will my need to be self sustainable. The remoteness of the AK wilderness requires one to be completely prepared for whiteouts and other weather conditions that would force one to sit and wait things out. I have the Salsa Enabler Rack arriving today and once it gets installed I will detail the complete winter kit including the overall layout of gear and bags in a separate post.
