The Spare Seat Comes to an End
Words cannot adequately describe what this trip was like for me. As I made it out to the Statue of Liberty with my partner Richard, I felt a wave of emotion wash over me that is sure to stay with me for a long, long time. Our journey was about connecting with people, with history, and with nature, all through the use of two simple kayaks. No motors, no fuel, just two big hearts and some weary backs and arms to paddle us along.
Each day we saw incredible scenes of nature and met people and communities with huge hearts. We were welcomed into shops, homes, B&B's, restaurants, castles, marinas, coffee shops, and so much more. Each time, we felt like it was the first, and each time we had to depart, we felt as if our time their was too short.
I will take the next week or so to edit images and work on my version of the story, a story that I hope will help inspire you to go visit this amazing portion of our great country. The route down the Eerie Canal is steeped in history that I had somehow missed. The birding wildlife along the Hudson river was among the best I have ever witnessed. The people and the communities along the entire route were full of so much love and kindness that I will forever be touched by this trip.
To all the people of all the villages, towns, and cities along the way, I am so deeply grateful for all that you did. I am honored and humbled to have been a part of this incredible journey.
P&L,
G
