Birth

Lots of cool stuff happening all around me.  I must admit, that after the AK trip and the massive amount of blogging and editing, I am in a bit of a 'writing' funk.  Hopefully I can get some rides in and clear my head.  In the meantime, last night, one of the greatest gifts in the world happened, my Daughter Ashley  gave birth to her first child.

Carter Charles Gaudiano was forced into the world, not quite ready to leave his nice warm and comforting place of residence.  A mix of drugs and other techniques pulled him out into this wild and crazy world we live in.  There is much to rejoice about life today, and much to question.

As I move into the second half of my life, I realize that my ability to make change, to have an impact, will slowly and steadily decline as the next 50 years roll by.  I am certainly not throwing in the towel, and have much to say, do and contribute, but the birth of a Grandchild has a way of putting all things in perspectived.  My daughters generation and now Carter's generation, will inherit something from us.  What exactly that is, well that is still TBD.

There is still time for us to make a difference, to insure that what we leave is better than what we received. How to do that, at least in the broad sense, remains a mystery to me?  However, at the micro level, I believe that if we keep making good choices each and every day; if we keep trying to make peace and love each and every day; if we find compassion in our hearts and patience in our head, each and every day; -- well then I guess my hope is that all of these 'each and every day' moments, when strung together, will make the difference that I know I so dearly wish to see happen.

Today, I celebrate the birth of my grandson with a good Bourbon, a nice bike ride, and the knowledge that my baby girl is all grown up.

Much Peace & Love to you -- Carter Charles Gaudiano 6/13/13
